The Government of Japan extends its grant assistance to the Republic of Fiji. UNIDO will cooperate with Japan and Fiji on implementing “the project for Promoting Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency in Plastic Value Chains” with funding from Japan amounting to 579 million yen (approx. 3.9 million USD)

On February 18, in Suva, the capital of the Republic of Fiji, H.E. Mr. MICHII Rokuichiro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Fiji, and Mr. MURAKAMI Hideki, Deputy Head, Investment and Technology Promotion Office in Tokyo, signed and exchanged notes for “the Project for Promoting Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency in Plastic Value Chains” (project up to 579 million yen).
This project contributes to the efficient use of resources through development of plastic value chain in Fiji, by strengthening environmental protection policies and waste regulatory frameworks in the private sector to reduce plastic environmental leakage of plastic and promote resource efficiency, as well as by introducing Japan's advanced technology and equipment.
Japan expects a steady project implementation which will benefit from UNIDO's expertise and experience in the area of technical cooperation. Japan and UNIDO will continue to cooperate closely in promoting the achievement of the SDGs.
