Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Science and Technology and Technical Cooperation

Nuclear science and technology has been making unique and significant contributions in addressing global challenges such as climate change, energy security, and global development.  The IAEA technical cooperation (TC) programme is the main mechanism through which the IAEA helps Member States to build, strengthen and maintain capacities in utilizing nuclear technologies in a safe, secure and peaceful manner, particularly for sustainable socio-economic development.

IAEA Peaceful Uses Initiative (PUI)

The IAEA Peaceful Uses Initiative (PUI), since its launch in 2010, has become an important vehicle to raise extra budgetary contributions for IAEA activities in the peaceful uses of nuclear technology. Japan has contributed more than 12 million US dollars to the PUI, and supported the IAEA’s projects in the areas of food and agriculture, water management and environmental protection, human health including cancer control, nuclear safety and radiation protection and nuclear infrastructure development.
