UNIDO Director General’s visit to Japan
2018/4/18
1 Mr. Li Yong, Director General of UNIDO, visited Japan from April 16 to 18.
2 During his visit, the DG paid courtesy calls to Mr. Kazuyuki Nakane, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Masaki Ogushi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. He also engaged in an exchange of views with Mr. Hideo Suzuki, Director-General for Global Issues.
3 His visit provided a valuable opportunity to discuss the reinforcement of cooperation between Japan and UNIDO on policy fields of common interest to both, such as the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Process, and Human Security. The discussion covered various other topics, including application of knowledge and technologies of the Japanese private sector in development aid projects conducted by UNIDO, better governance of UNIDO’s Secretariat and Japan’s representation in Secretariat staff members.
4 DG Li Yong also attended a seminar held by UNIDO, titled “Japan-UNIDO Multi-stakeholder Cooperation Dialogue”, and engaged proactively with participants from the Japanese private sector. He also presented UNIDO’s efforts in SDGs implementation to Japanese youth, at the symposium held jointly by the University of Tokyo and UNIDO.
