State Minister Kihara meets with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency

On 13th June 2016, H.E.Mr. Seiji Kihara, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, during his visit to Vienna, met with Mr. Yukiya Amano, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The overview of the meeting is as follows.
 
1 State Minister Kihara introduced the discussion at the G7 process, through which G7 reaffirmed the critical role of the IAEA on nuclear non-proliferation and peaceful uses of nuclear energy. State Minister Kihara stated that Japan attaches great importance to the IAEA’s activities including in regional nuclear issues and nuclear security, and that Japan strongly supports the “Atoms for Peace and Development” advocated by Director General Amano. State Minister Kihara stated that Japan looks forward to working together so that it can continue to fulfill its important missions.
 
2 Director General Amano expressed his appreciation for Japan’s continuous support towards a number of IAEA activities. The Director General also explained the IAEA’s activities including nuclear security, verification and monitoring of Iran’s commitments under the JCPOA, and the North Korean nuclear issue.
