Signing and Exchange of Notes on the Project for Strengthening Capacity of Maritime Law Enforcement Agencies for Effective Maritime Crime Control in the Pacific Island Countries (the Republic of Fiji, the Republic of Kiribati, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of Nauru, the Republic of Palau, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and the Republic of Vanuatu)
 
The grant agreement was signed by Ambassador HIKIHARA Takeshi of the Permanent Mission of Japan to the International Organizations in Vienna, and Ms. Ghada Fathi Waly, Executive Director of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
 
This assistance will be provided to maritime law enforcement agencies in nine Pacific Island countries (Kiribati, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Nauru, Vanuatu, Palau, Fiji, Marshall Islands, and Micronesia), in cooperation with UNODC, through the provision of equipment and other measures to improve their systems, training programs and other measures to enhance human resource capacity. In turn, the grant is expected to contribute to ensuring maritime security and revitalizing socioeconomic activities in these countries.
