Statement by H.E. Mr. Mitsuru Kitano, Permanent Representative, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan at the opening session of UNIDO’s 50th Anniversary

The opening ceremony of UNIDO’s 50th Anniversary took place on Monday, 21 November under the theme “Together for a Sustainable future”. Over 700 participants attended the celebratory event at which high-level representatives from Member States, international organizations, finance institutions, and private sector stakeholders delivered their congratulatory statements. The speakers shared their activities in cooperation with UNIDO in achieving inclusive and sustainable industrial development and highlighted the importance of meeting the goals set out in the 2030 Agenda.
Ambassador Kitano extended Japan’s most sincere wishes for further success of UNIDO, mentioning encouraging factors, such as (1) UNIDO’s clear vision of its future direction in regard to SDGs, (2) the international community’s solid trust to UNIDO, and (3) UNIDO’s relevance now and in the future in tackling major challenges faced by the international community.
