Japanese NGO supports the UNODC by fundraising towards other NGOs’ drug prevention activities and drug demand reduction strategies

On 13 March, Mr. Fujino, President of the Drug Abuse Prevention Center (DAPC), in the presence of Ambassador Kaifu, handed over a donation of 13.8 million yen to Ms. Ghada Waly, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The donation was made as part of this year’s UN Fundraising Campaign.
Executive Director Waly expressed her gratitude for the continued support from Japan over the past three decades, and praised the commemorative event held on 12 March to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Peace Bell.
Mr. Fujino stressed the need to raise public awareness in Japan about the significance of the campaign, noting that it is vital for sustaining continued support.
Reference: The UN Fundraising Campaign has been supporting drug abuse prevention activities carried out by NGOs in developing countries through contributions to UNODC. To date, a total of approximately 769.3 million yen has been donated, supporting 790 projects.
