Thank you, Chair,
Japan thanks the Director General for the update in his opening statement with regard to the implementation of the NPT safeguards agreement in the Syrian Arab Republic.
Japan continues to emphasize the need to achieve substantial progress towards resolving all outstanding issues. In this regard, we commend the efforts of Director General and the Agency to make progress and we call on the Syrian Care-Taker Government to fully cooperate with the Agency.
We also call upon Syria to conclude an Additional Protocol.
While the outstanding issues remain unresolved, there is no reason to remove this agenda item. Japan requests the Director General to keep the Board of Governors informed on this issue, including the results of the analysis of the environmental samples, and retain this item on the agenda of its meetings.
Thank you, Chair.
