Japan contributes 2.2 million USD to a UNIDO project in Cameroon: "Promoting Sustainability and Strengthening International Competitiveness of Domestic Products by Enhancing Advanced Technologies"

The Government of Japan extends its grant assistance to the Republic of Cameroon. UNIDO will cooperate with Japan and Cameroon on implementing the project “Promoting Sustainability and Strengthening International Competitiveness of Domestic Products by Enhancing Advanced Technologies” with funding from Japan amounting to 325,000,000 Japanese Yen (approx. 2.2 million USD).
 
 

Mr. IKEDA, Kiyohiko, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Cameroon, and Mr. Raymond Tavares, UNIDO Representative, Country Office in Cameroon, signed and exchanged Notes regarding implementation of the project on 5 March 2024.

This project aims to strengthen the international export competitiveness of cocoa and coffee beans, the country's main export products, by increasing productivity and improving quality through capacity building for low-income farmers and mutual aid associations. It will be targeted at the cities of Bafoussam, the capital of the Western Province and Ebolowa, the capital of Cameroon's South Region, promoting sustainable and competitive agricultural and rural development and higher incomes for low-income farmers and workers in processing industries in the country .

This project contributes to the achievement of TICAD 8 goals. Japan expects a steady implementation of the project which will benefit from UNIDO's expertise and experience in the area of technical cooperation. Japan and UNIDO will continue to cooperate closely in promoting the achievement of the SDGs.
