Japan sponsors the IAEA Staff Association Ball 2016

On the 13 February, the annual IAEA Staff Association Ball was held at the Hofburg, Vienna, Austria. As this year’s sponsoring country, Japan participated with the following exhibits, which were made possible by the close collaboration between the Japanese government, companies, organizations and individuals. These exhibits highlighted Japanese culture, tradition and various aspects of Japanese society. The Ball was attended by a variety of guests from the IAEA, other international organizations in Vienna, the diplomatic community, and the general public.

1) “Shuichi HIDANO with TAIKO Masters”, a group of 8 drum performers from Japan, gave a stunning performance during the Opening Ceremony.

2) Ms. Akiko NAKAJIMA, a soprano based in Vienna, performed at the Opening Ceremony, delighting the guests with four songs, “Aka tombo”, “Hab’ ich nur Deine Liebe”, both sung in Japanese , “Einer wird kommen”, and “Wien, du Stadt meiner Träume”.
3) Japanese Restaurant SHIKI in Vienna conducted a cooking demonstration, introducing the cultural background of sushi and sake, sushi preparation methods and a ceremony called KAGAMI-BIRAKI. After the demonstration, sushi and sake were served for participating guests.
4) Images and films edited by Mr. Yoshimasa TAKANO were displayed, illustrating contemporary and traditional culture, landscapes and customs of Japan.
