Japanese "Young Civic Ambassadors" support the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime by fund raising towards other NGOs' drug demand reduction or drug prevention activities

Three Japanese high school students visited Vienna from 27 to 31 March 2012 in their capacity as “Young Civic Ambassadors” to hand over the donation collected through the “No! Absolutely No!” fund raising campaign in Japan to the United Nation Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC). The fund raising campaign was conducted to raise nation-wide awareness for drug abuse, and was implemented by the Drug Abuse Prevention Center, an NGO, in 2011.
In Vienna, they first paid a courtesy call on H. E. Mr. Toshiro Ozawa, Ambassador of the Permanent Mission of Japan to the International Organizations in Vienna, at his office.
The donation ceremony took place on 28 March. On that day, the three Young Civic Ambassadors visited the UNODC and handed over tha valuable donation to Mr. Yuri Fedotov, the Executive Director of the UNODC.
The amount of the donation, 17 million yen (approximately 207 thousand dollars), will be used to support drug demand reduction programmes and public awareness programmes on drug abuse prevention. Since its establishment in 1993, the “No, Absolutely No!” fund has supported over five hundred NGOs engaged in activities at the grassroots in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Caribbean, and Eastern Europe.
