On 29 September, Ambasador Mitsuru Kitano attended the ground breaking ceremony at IAEA Nuclear Applications Laboratories in Seibersdorf. The ceremony marked an important milestone in the project for the renovation of the Nuclear Applications Laboratories in Seibersdorf, known as ReNuAL project.

ReNuAL project is aimed at modernizing the Laboratories, which have been playing an instrumental role in addressing fundamental global challenges such as food security and safety, climate change, cancer, environmental monitoring and emergency response through research and development, training and the provision of analytical services.

The Government of Japan believes that the Nuclear Applications Laboratories at Seibersdorf have been playing an important role in the promotion of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, and attaches great importance to this project, as the modernisation of the Laboratories will benefit all Member States. The Government of Japan has been supporting the project from its inception, including its financial contribution of half a million Euro.
