Garden Party 2022 at Ambassador’s Residence
2022/6/29
Japan’s “Garden Party”, the annual summertime social event of the Permanent Mission in Vienna, was held at Ambassador Hikihara’s official residence on 29 June 2022, after having been cancelled for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We had the pleasure to welcome 340 guests.
Ms. Ghada Waly, Director General of UNOV and Executive Director of UNODC, Dr. Gerd Müller, Director General of UNIDO, and Dr. Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of CTBTO, joined the party and delivered short greetings to our guests.
In addition to a variety of Japanese cuisine, various sakes and Japanese whiskies were served at the sake booth, set up with the kind cooperation of Japanese grocery shop NIPPON-YA and a sake shop SAKE no BA. This year also featured a “Fukushima booth” with panels displaying the reconstruction of Fukushima and Director General of IAEA, Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi’s visit to Fukushima. Sake and Amazake (sweet sake) from Fukushima were offered, together with sushi made with rice from Fukushima. A piano trio composed of three young Japanese musicians played beautiful Japanese and Austrian pieces for our guests.
Participants enjoyed a pleasant summer evening in the garden, with Japanese food, sake and music.
