Japan Pledges its Contribution of USD 751,000 to Five IAEA TC Regional Projects in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific, and Europe

On 8 March, the Government of Japan pledged its contribution of USD 751,000 to support five IAEA Technical Cooperation (TC) Regional projects in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific, and Europe, through Japan’s contribution to IAEA Peaceful Uses Initiative (PUI). The decision was announced by Mr. Mitsuru Kitano, Ambassador of Permanent Mission of Japan to the International Organizations in Vienna, in his statement at the Board of Governors meeting.
 
The projects that Japan will support are listed by regions as follows:

RAF/6/045 “Strengthening Regional Human Resource Building and Treatment Capacity in Radiotherapy (AFRA)*” – USD 195,000
 
 (Latin America and the Caribbean)
RLA/6/072 “Supporting Capacity Building of Human Resources for a Comprehensive Approach to Radiation Therapy (ARCAL** CXXXIV)" –USD 275,000
   
 (Asia and the Pacific)
RAS/5/078 “Enhancing Food Safety Laboratory Capabilities and Establishing a Network in Asia to Control Veterinary Drug Residues and Related Chemical Contaminants” –USD 88,000
 
RAS/5/072 “Enhancing the Use of Salt Affected Soils and Saline Water for Crop and Biomass Production and Reducing Land and Water Quality Degradation in ARASIA*** States Parties” –USD 36,000
 
(Europe)
RER/5/022 "Establishing Genetic Control Programmes for Aedes Invasive Mosquitoes" –USD 157,000
 
 Japan strongly supports “Atoms for Peace and Development” promoted by the IAEA, and will continue to support TC projects in close consultation and cooperation with the IAEA and countries in these regions.
