Japan contributes additional 1.7 million USD to UNIDO project in Liberia
2016/3/10
The Government of Japan has decided to extend its grant aid to UNIDO by up to 200,000,000 Japanese Yen (around 1.7 million US Dollars) to implement the “Project for Promoting Youth Employment by Supporting Technical and Vocational Education in Liberia”.
On 10 March, the Government of Japan and UNIDO exchanged notes with Mr. Kaoru Yoshimura, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Liberia and Mr. Phillipe Scholtes, Managing Director- Programme Development and Technical Cooperation for this project.
This project assists a local vocational training center in providing targeted training to both youth and the trainers themselves, and aims to enhance their employability in key sectors, which in turn will lead to the consolidation of peace through the realization of social and economic development.
Japan has committed to the capacity building of 30,000 people for business and industry as part of its Assistance Package for Africa at TICADV held in 2013. This cooperation is a realization of this prior commitment.
