Japan contributes additional JPY 300 million to further strengthen UNIDO’s low carbon technology transfer programme for Africa

The Government of Japan will further strengthen its contribution to the Low Carbon Low Emission Clean Energy Technology (LCET) programme that is being implemented by UNIDO in Africa.
 

Ambassador Kitano attended the signing ceremony and exchanged the programme’s corresponding agreement with UNIDO Director General Li Yong.







During this ceremony, Ambassador Kitano expressed his appreciation for the LCET programme, highlighting the following points:
・The LCET programme is a unique cooperation between Japan and UNIDO which supports Africa in tackling its environmental issues by transferring environmental technologies from the Japanese private sector to the continent.
・This programme is the symbol of “targeted partnership”, one of UNIDO’s strengths.
・The Government of Japan considers it necessary to enhance the cooperation between Japan and UNIDO by implementing activities, such as the LCET programme, that address both Japan’s priorities and UNIDO’s core strengths.

The LCET programme aims to globally promote the rapid deployment and dissemination of new low carbon technologies, and is being implemented in Ethiopia and Kenya at present. The duration of this programme is foreseen for 2013-2018, and is funded by METI of Japan.
