Workshop on ‘Nuclear Security Centers of Excellence in Asia'

On 7 December 2016, the Permanent Mission of Japan to the International Organizations in Vienna, the Vienna Center of Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP) and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency Integrated Support Center for Nuclear Nonproliferation and Nuclear Security (JAEA/ISCN) co-hosted a workshop on ‘Nuclear Security Centers of Excellence in Asia: Progress and the Way Forward’.
The purpose of this workshop was to facilitate the exchange of ideas among experts and policy makers who gather for attending the IAEA International Conference on Nuclear Security.
After the Nuclear Security Summit process concluded in April 2016, it is recognized that the international support is further important to keep the political momentum and to strengthen continuously nuclear security as national, regional and global levels.
Over the course of panel discussion, distinguished panelists from Korea, China, Japan and the IAEA provided ideas on international efforts and regional collaboration in the areas of nuclear security and capacity building. And they exchanged opinions with open-minded from the floor.
