UNIDO第53会期産業開発理事会:議題3:2024年事務局長の年次報告におけるステートメント(鈴木誉里子公使)(英語)

令和7年6月30日
Statement at the fifty-third session of the Industrial Development Board (IDB)

[Agenda Item 3: Annual Report of the Director General for 2024]

Mr. President,

(Outset)
It is a pleasure to see you presiding over this year’s Board.

(Japan-UNIDO cooperation)
The Japan-UNIDO relationship has recently been significantly strengthened. We greatly value UNIDO’s expertise and experience in ISID. Japan continues its support for Ukraine through the “Green Industrial Recovery Project,” and remains committed to promoting sustainable industrial development in the Global South through collaboration with Japanese private companies and their local partners in respective countries. We have also launched new ventures in 14 CARICOM countries, as well as in Fiji and Brazil, focusing on technology transfer, plastic value chains, and industrial resilience. TICAD 9, the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development, will be held in Yokohama this August, with the aim of co-creating innovative solutions with African partners. This will be a tremendous opportunity to further strengthen our cooperation with the African continent. UNIDO is an indispensable partner for Japan, as exemplified by our 13 ongoing projects distributed over more than 20 African countries. We look forward to UNIDO’s active participation in TICAD9.

(Budget)
We appreciate the constructive discussions on the budget proposal held between the Secretariat and Member States during the PBC. We accepted the ZRG budget in a spirit of consensus to support the strengthening of UNIDO's activities amid growing expectations towards its key role in promoting ISID in developing and emerging countries. In light of the ongoing financial difficulties faced by Member States, we expect the Secretariat to continue optimizing costs, and using resources efficiently to generate savings when and where possible.
Mr. President,

(Independent Oversight Advisory Committee and External Auditor)
Last but not least, we take note of the critical findings raised by the UNIDO Independent Oversight Advisory Committee and the External Auditor. We expect the Secretariat under the strong leadership of Director General Müller to take due notice of the issues and concerns raised in both reports, and to implement the respective recommendations in an effective, efficient and timely manner. Also, we
believe that recruitment should be conducted on a broad and equitable geographical basis.

In closing, I wish to assure you of our fullest cooperation for the success of this IDB session, and of our continued support for UNIDO and DG Müller in his second term.
