UNIDO第42会期計画予算委員会:議題11:第4次アフリカ工業開発の10年(IDDA IV)におけるステートメント(岡部大介臨時代理大使)(英語)
令和8年6月23日
Thank you, Madam Chair.
Japan takes note of the report by the Director General contained in PBC.42/11 on the Fourth Industrial Development Decade for Africa (IDDA IV). We acknowledge UNIDO's efforts and achievements across various sectors critical to Africa's sustainable industrial development and commend the organization's active role in the transition from IDDA III to IV.
Japan has been a longstanding partner for Africa, particularly since the establishment of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in 1993, which continues to serve as the principal platform for Africa-Japan cooperation. TICAD 9, held in Yokohama last August, provided an opportunity to co-create innovative solutions together with African countries. In this respect, Japan sees great potential in aligning IDDA IV with the TICAD process.
This February, we announced the launch of six newly Japan-funded UNIDO projects covering five African countries: Djibouti, Ethiopia, The Gambia, Kenya, and Mauritius. These projects target critical areas for Africa’s further development such as fisheries value chains, agricultural mechanization, climate-resilient cold chains, digital entrepreneurship, and plastic circular economy solutions.
Japan's ongoing support also includes numerous projects aimed at enhancing food value chains, job creation through skills development, and climate innovation. ITPO Tokyo continues to play a pivotal role with its Sustainable Technology Promotion Platform (STePP) and conducting promotional events to encourage investment from Japanese companies, generating sustainable business opportunities and enhancing industrial capability in Africa.
In conclusion, we look forward to fostering more cooperation with UNIDO and Africa in order to promote ISID in the region.
