IAEA6月理事会(議題3 IAEA技術協力活動の強化-2024年技術協力報告)ステートメント(谷内一智公使)(英語)
令和7年6月9日

Thank you, Madam Chair,
Japan thanks the Secretariat for preparing the “Technical Cooperation Report for 2024”.
The IAEA's Technical Cooperation (TC) program plays a vital role in contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular, the Agency’s flagship initiatives have brought about a tangible impact in delivering the benefits of nuclear science and technology worldwide.
Japan supports the Agency’s role and efforts strongly and actively.
Japan has continued to pay its full share of the Technical Cooperation Fund (TCF) and has already fully contributed 7.5 million Euros this year. Japan once again encourages all Member States to pay their TCF target shares and National Participation Costs (NPCs) in full and on time.
Japan has also made a new contribution of 7.3 million Euros to Rays of Hope through the Peaceful Uses Initiative (PUI) this year. This assistance enhances the Agency’s fight against cancer in 22 African countries and in Ukraine.
Madam Chair,
In addition to our financial contributions, Japanese experts continue to take part in IAEA missions. We would also like to highlight that more than 100 experts were trained in Japan last year alone through fellowships, scientific visits and training courses, including the first-ever summer school hosted by the Hiroshima University Phoenix Leader Education Programme.
Madam Chair,
Fostering non-traditional partnerships is crucial for maximizing impact and fulfilling the increasing financial demand for the activities of the Agency. We are proud that the Onchikai General Incorporated Foundation in Japan has contributed 100,000 Euros to Rays of Hope. Japan hopes that the Agency will continue its efforts to further engage and collaborate with international financing institutions and the private sector in this regard.
Finally,
Cooperation among Member States is vital for effective technical cooperation activities. Japan remains actively committed to the RCA (Regional Cooperative Agreement for Research, Development and Training Related to Nuclear Science and Technology for Asia and the Pacific), an important platform in the Asia-Pacific region, by contributing both financially and through knowledge sharing.
With these comments, Japan takes note of the report.
Thank you, Madam Chair.
